about

All sounds and images by Trevor Vincent Edmonds & Sean Curtis Patrick.

Planned, Recorded, and Mastered in Ann Arbor, MI from November 14-16th, 2009. Both had swine flu and both suffered throughout the recording process. Sean had contracted it flying from Atlanta to film a Lemans race for Audi. As the album came together that weekend, a 1970's children's book by Scholastic pertaining to UFO's was read and re-read as inspiration. The recording process was where one would record an initial idea and the other would rest, and then they would take turns adding and subtracting. Layering and adding to each track was done together via headphones.

The UFO book and this workflow informed the overall vibe and structure of each track. Vintage Orban reverb, multiple synths by ARP, Moog, and Sequential Circuits, Fender Rhodes, various 1/4" tape loops, old pedals, and an old Roland drum machine were used throughout. Some of these instruments were loaned to us by Damon Tutunjian and Chuck Sipperley. It was routine to sneak on to the University of Michigan's campus and record grand pianos as well. Our studio space at the time was an old metalwork studio we brought a lot of gear into. We recorded drums and Rhodes in there.

A 500 pound AC unit hung in the middle of the room and sounds occasionally rattled it concerningly. Music concrete loops were made in an 8000sqft room next door that had a drumset, a Porsche 911 (not ours), and a few paintings by Sean in a corner. That room is now a fancy distillery and they won't let us in.

The audio masters were lost by Sean while staying in Los Angeles that December. He was living in the library of an old home of Steve Mcqueen's off Sunset Blvd while working. He called Trevor on the verge of tears letting him know that something went awry on a hard drive and everything was gone. But fear not: One copy remained... On a semi-broken CD-R given to Trevor before he left Ann Arbor for his home in Grand Rapids. However, that copy had been already loaned to a mutual friend and fastidious multimedia archivist, Tim Warren.

The album was recovered from that Pre-Master Composite CD held by Tim in January 2010 and released shortly thereafter. Without that single act of archiving and protecting that file on that CD by Tim, this album would be gone forever, much like a recording by Trevor and Sean of Serge Gainsbourg's 'Ford Mustang' (Trevor on Bardot's parts).

Thank you to our friends and family that always encouraged these moments of insanity and spontaneity within us. We hope you enjoy the new and improved version...
